 Selsey 2006 Trophy Winners

u8 winners06 selsey
This is the squad who battled at Selsey to win the first ever Trophy for the Under 8's age group in Highdown Saints history. Over 2 mornings they played 6 games, each at 12 minutes each way and although after 5 games they were winners of the group they had to play the runners-up to secure their title as winners. A very big thank you from Ian and Ray to all the players who did exactly what was asked of them. Also a big thank you to all the parents for travelling to Selsey at the crack of dawn and supporting the team - I am sure you will all agree that the presentation evening on Sunday night was well worth the 180 miles we all clocked up !!!

CHALLENGE CUP FINAL RESULT : Highdown 1 : Otters 5
The result doesn't tell the story.  An Angus Ashcroft goal gave the Saints the lead after 10 minutes which they held comfortably until well into the second half.  Harry Russell went close on 2 occasions to increase the lead but found their keeper in fine form.  Otters grabbed 2 quick goals to go in front.  The Saints pushed forward to get a deserved equaliser but Otters were able to take advantage and scored 3 goals in the last 5 minutes.  It was a great game and both teams put on a display for the large crowd.  The boys did us proud, not only in the final, but all through the campaign.
